Unable to connect to workspace from external tools

Hi all,

Starting from today monring (say 10:00 CET) I cannot connect to our customer workspaces with external tools - namely Tabular Editor, Dax Studio and ALM Toolkit .
Whichever tool I try, I get always the same error:

The same goes for every workspace for this customer. They have Premium Capacity P1.

It is somewhat urgent, because I am unable to deploy some new measures and I cannot publish a new semantic model, because it is in incremental refresh and I would have to reload it from scratch. I also am afraid I will get an error trying to publish a new dataset, bit I still haven't attempted this.

Anyone can help, please?

Thanks in advance,

Gianfranco

Hi @iW1DOV

Please check the following aspects step by step:

Permission Requirements:

The customer needs to add you as a member of their Power BI Workspace.

The customer must enable the XMLA Endpoint in the Power BI service, which is key to connecting via DAX Studio.

Configure the XMLA Endpoint:
The customer needs to enable XMLA in the Power BI Admin Portal:

Log in to the Power BI service → Click the gear icon in the top-right corner → Select "Admin Portal" → Go to "Tenant Settings" → Enable "Allow XMLA Endpoints and Analyze in Excel".

Ciao @Anonymous

Thank you for your feedback. Both permissions and XMLA endpoints are OK. I am a workspace administrator and XMLA endpoints are enabled read-write.  Moreover, until Tuesday everything worked like a charm.

I kept investigating; here it is what I found so far:

1) I have the same problem  in all workspaces of customers I am currently following.
2) the same problem occurs also to colleagues of mine, with same permissions
3) The colleagues' PCs have never had any Power BI external product installed before; in other words, in the colleagues' PCs there only has been Power BI desktop and products like DAX Studio, ALM Toolkit are fresh installs.
4) The issue also affects SQL Server Management Studio when connecting to a Power BI Workspace - it simply freezes. So the problem also affects MS products, and not only third-parties only.
5) the issue DOES NOT occur when I operate with my credentials on a third-party PC

6) It does not appear to be a network issue, as I tried to connect using my cell phone hotspot and error still occurs.

Thank you for your help,

Gianfranco
