Unable to connect to Oracle DB

Hello

I have installed PowerBI Desktop 32bit version as well as needed driver for Oracle DB.

When I try to connect I receive next error:

Unable to connect:

Details: "An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'"

Status: Investigating

To connect to Oracle database in Power BI Desktop, you need to make sure both the bit version of Power BI Desktop and Oracle should be the same.  Have better use the web version of Power BI Desktop instead of the Microsoft Store version

After installing Oracle database, refer these document to configure the .ora files for it:

  1. Oracle Network Configuration (listener.ora , tnsnames.ora , sqlnet.ora)
  2. Local Naming Parameters in the tnsnames.ora File

If it still not works after configuration, please refer:

  1. PowerBI desktop 64Bit oracle connection error Object reference not set to an instance of an object
  2. Oracle connection error: Object reference not set to an instance

Hello

Thanks for support Yingjie Li. I will install x64bit version of powerbi desktop from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=58494, which is I presume, not from MS Store.

As for Oracle DB it is not on my machine, but already existing on remote Server to which I am connecting to.

I will try as proposed and get back here with feedback.

Thanks

Dejan
