Simba Spark ODBC Driver error in PBI Desktop (April 2022)

I've just upgraded to the lastest PBI Desktop version 2.104.702.0 64-bit (April 2022). When I'm trying to connect to an Azure Databricks cluster, I get the following error message:

Unable to connect
We encountered an error while trying to connect.
Details: "ODBC: ERROR [IM003] Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126: The specified module could not be found. (Simba Spark ODBC Driver, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Desktop\bin\ODBC Drivers\Simba Spark ODBC Driver\SparkODBC_sb64.dll)."

The specified driver does exist in the directory. I'll have to revert back to the March version of PBI Desktop.

Status: Delivered

Issue is resolved by the following step.

1 Uninstall Power BI Desktop

2 Delete Desktop installation directory

3 Restart PC

4 Reinstall the application

I had this issue after installing the May release.  The uninstall/delete/reboot/reinstall method worked.

.... for a day.

April release appears to be the culprit, so I Uninstaleld/delete/reboot/installed February release and it worked!

.... for a day.

Where I work, I am not an administrator on my machine, so the fix involves calling the helpdest, opening an incident, get it assigned to someone, waiting a few hours, and have them call into my machine (twice, since I have to reboot in between uninstall/reinstall)... so the process takes hours from the time I find it reappeared until it gets resolved.

For me, this "solution" is not acceptable.  Is there a real fix in the plans?  Does anyone know of a simpler workaround?  I figured reverting back to February was an acceptable workaround, but that doesn't even work for me anymore.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

One of my client team members is having the same issue with August version of POWER BI desktop. Does this mean, we will have to un-install this version and install March or Feb version ? Or will the steps provided here, work for August version as well?

Thanks,

Tanya.

@tanyapammy What I have seen is that you can do the uninstall/reboot/reinstall with any of the later versions ( after the issue first occurred in Feb-Apr) and it will work.   You don't need to revert back to an earlier release (prior to Feb 2022).
