Show next level arrow greyed out in matrix

Just today I realized that a lot of my reports are having a greyed out “show next level” drill down arrow on the top level of the hierarchy:

If I readd the columns to the row elements of the matrix it works again.
This appears to be a new bug and I am not sure if you aware of it.

Is this a known issue? @miguel1

Hi @Eliasaki92

If you cannot reproduce this issue , it becomes very difficult to find the cause.  For the rest of the faulty matrix you can only update it manually for now. You can keep watching to see if the same thing happens subsequently.

Hi @Eliasaki92

There is no similar known issue. Does your problem occur only with matrix or do other visuals with hierarchical structures have this problem ? Does this problem occur in Service or Desktop ?

Many thanks for your quick response. It occurs in both Desktop and Service and so far I have only seen it in the Matrix visual. However not all matrix show this behaviour, but I cannot find out why it sometimes is disabled and sometimes not (I am always on the top level of the hierachy when I test it).
When I rebuilt the rows of the matrix it works again, but this effects mutliple reports and it would be a lot of work to recreate.

Same issue here, I have one report with several matrix visuals with the same hierarchy in the rows - only one has the bug that the "go to next level" button is greyed out.

The row hierarchy contains one custom hierarchy with 4 fields plus 1 extra field.

I can't reproduce the bug itself, but to repair it I can deselect and then add again one of the fields in the custom hierarchy - if I remove and add the other extra field it has no effect on the bug.

Same issue here. Two nearly identical matrices on the same page - top is greyed out, bottom is not.

Is anyone still encountering this? I just had this issue happen to me as well. On a matrix in a report, I was able to drill up to the top level then use the "Go to the next level in the hierarchy" button, and at the same time on the same report with the same matrix visualization, another user accessing the same report on app.powerbi.com followed the same steps and their "Go to the next level in the hierarchy" button was greyed out when they were at the top level of the matrix.

The only difference I can think of is that I have a pro license and they have a premium capacity license, but we're both viewing the report online via a premium capacity workspace.

Hi,

Sharing to what I understood how the tool works.

The tool name “Go to the next level Hierarchy” reports on the subsequent level of hierarchies. For this the report should be with only one level. To start with, that’s possible only if you are at the highest level or drilled up to the top.

In the below pic, You can see the icon is de-activated as i have a Matrix report with 2 levels.

Once i drill up to the Top level. I can see the icon being activated.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Here's what I've been able to attribute it to.  If you are at the top level and "Go to next level" icon is grayed out it means that at some lower level you have something expanded.

To test this, go all the way to the top level and then "Expand All" all the way to the bottom. Then, "Drill up" until you get back to the top.  It has been my experience that this makes "Go to next level" clickable again.

If that works for you then you need to be extremely careful when you are making changes to your report because if you save with it with any sub-level expanded (in the grayed out state) then you've rentroduced the anomaly.

Agree with @dld0qxz . It seems you can't "mix" hierarchies when you're partway drilled down into one or the other.
