SAP HANA ; ODBC cannot use SCC for slave and master

Hello Power BI Support,

I have an issue when I try to create a source system in Power BI Desktop or Power BI Web with two DSN (master and shadow (or slave)).

SAP provide a solution named SCC (SAP Cloud Connector) with a master and a shadow connection like 192.168.12.12:3015;192.168.13.12:3015. When the master is down, we use the shadow connection.

It is working when I use the ODBC connection but it doesn't work when I use the SAP HANA connection (with the same SAP HANA ODBC agent).

It is a very painful point, because I have to change all of my Power BI datasource when the master is down and I cannot propose live connection to my business.

Best regards,

Josselin BONHOURE

Hi @Anonymous ,

Is there any error occurs when you use SAP HANA connector in Power BI desktop? Please ensure you already downloaded SAP HANA ODBC driver and installed it on the machine which has Power BI desktop run. For more information, please refer to this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-sap-hana

Hello @v-qiuyu-msft ,

I already installed the last SAP HANA ODBC driver on my computer (for the desktop) and on the Azure gateway (for Web), it is working when I put only one IP adress (for example the master) but it doesn't work when I put two IP Adress (master and shadow).

When the master is down, I need that the connector switch to the shadow. It is working when I use ODBC

But it doesn't work when I use SAP HANA database connector.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Do you mean entering two IP address in Server box when using SAP HANA connector?

It's not supported to do it. We can only put one IP address each time.

Hello,

I understand but when I use the ODBC Connector (same ODBC driver, same source system (HANA)) I can create a user DNS on my computer with the master and the shadow IP.

And I can use it on Power BI.

Is it possible to use DSN insteed of IP Adress for SAP HANA connector ?

Best regards.

Hi @Anonymous ,

For SAP HANA connector, we only type IP or server name, it doesn't support ODBC DSN.

Hi @v-qiuyu-msft ,

Thank you for your answer.

I have a last question, I have noticed that the information of connexion with SAP HANA connector evolves since 2016-2017 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-in/power-bi/desktop-sap-hana

Do you plan to continue the evolution by adding new features like DSN ?

Best regards,

Josselin

Hi @Anonymous ,

I'm afraid there is no plan. You can submit a idea here: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas
