We have 3 visuals in an APP that started to receive the "Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later" message. The visuals populated from the desktop. All visuals were of the type matrix. After much investigation and trial and error, we determined reducing the length of the column name or removing a specific column - the data would appear. Once the visual failed, it had to be recreated from scratch before it would work again. This workaround has caused heartburn for users. The column name was originally 34 characters long including spaces. We reduced it down to 6 characters after recreating the visual. These visuals are part of an app that has 15 sets of visuals, some of them using the very same column in a matrix without issue.

Sounds like column name would affect the visual loading? Whether it could be caused by the data size instead of the column name.
In addition, when it shows the error on the visual, what's the detailed error message about it, you can click 'See details' to check.

Community Support Team _ Yingjie LiThe column name size (34 characters) reduced down is what enabled it to work after failing. However, there are other visuals using the same column with 34 character name without issue. I've attaced the error.

Column name size did not make sense to me as to why that would be an issue. I couldn't think of anything else that would cause issue but through trial and error we identified the issue to be related to that column specifically and the name change made it work for that visual. Again, other visuals with that column name not a problem.
Original Column name: "Daily Extended Detail Order Weight" which is renamed in visual "Extended Detail Order Weight". <failed>
Name in Visual changed to: "Weight" is the "Fix" to prevent visual from failing.
To be clear, the Rename occurs in the visual NOT the underlying .pbix file.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do or provide to help resolve this issue.

Thanks for the information. Currrently could be confirmed from the information:
- It only happens in the specific matrix visual in the specific column
- Rename column name in the visual directly from 'Daily Extended Detail Order Weight' to 'Extended Detail Order Weight' could not mitigate this issue
- Rename column name to 'Weight' could load data normally
In addition, which data source you are connecting to in this report and how about the data size in the report
