Downloading data from Dashboard table or matrix tiles

I have a dashboard that has a table tile in it that folks would like to use to export the data to Excel so they can work on it there.  How can users of my dashboard export grids of data out of dashboards?

We have finally discovered the problem. My IT shop had turned off "Export Data" under the admin portal tabl "Tenant settings". If you turn that on, then the ellipsis should show up for me on my dashboard. I can't really test that until IT turns on the functionality (which could be months if not years away!)

Thank you!

Follow the steps listed below to get the job done:

Export a dashboard's data
  1. Select the ellipses in the top right corner of the visualization.
  2. Choose the Export data icon. The data is exported to a CSV file. If the visual is filtered, then the downloaded data will also be filtered.
  3. Open the CSV file in Excel.

Bhavesh,

There are no ellipses in the top right corner of the table visualization when viewed in a dashboard. User needs to go to the report to be able to see the ellipses menu.

Hi Susan! Where or how do I access the admin portal to modify the "Tenant Settings"? Is this in Power BI Service or Power BI Desktop? Thanks!

Hi @marcoselias,

if your account has Power BI admin or Global Admin role, you will see this option in setting option in the top right of screen

I see. Thank you!

Thank you so much for responding! You know - those instructions work on my Power BI Desktop, but for the dashboards and reports I have published, there is no ellipses on the visualizations. I don't have Power BI Pro though, so I'm wondering if that is it.  Can you download data from your published reports and dashboards on Power BI online rather than the Power BI desktop application?

Data can be exported from PowerBI Service as well. It has the same ellipses option in Dashboards & Reports view in PBI Service. The only data not exported is that using natural Q & A. Visaulizations prepared with Q& A does not export the data.

You do not need Pro account for this.

I watched that link.  Thank you for sending it.  However, none of my dashboard visuals even have the ellipsis available.  I'll get some screen shots and show you what I'm seeing.

I tried pinning just a visual to a dashboard rather than a whole report page to a dashboard. That at least gave me the ellipsis, but when I use those ellipsis, none of the choices are for exporting the data to excel.  Am I building my dashboards incorrectly? I am stumped.

This first screen shot shows you how when I try to get the ellipsis on the first set list of data titled "Outages longer than 14 hours", the ellipsis don't even show up.  The second screen shot shows you how when I send a single visual to a dashboard, the choices I have after hitting the ellipsis don't include exporting the data to excel.

Hi Xiaoxin,

Thanks for trying to reproduce my issue.  Your post got me to thinking about how to provide more detail about my problem. I stumbled onto a technical details page which gave me a link to microsoft support. I have sent in a microsoft support ticket, so if I hear back from them, I'll definitely let you all know.  Here's the techincal details from one of my tiles.  I don't know if this helps give you more information or not.
