Power BI Report Builder subreports not working when published in personal workspace

Hello,

The following issues occur when a report is published into the personal workspace:

  • When opening the report from the Power BI-Service (and not as local file) it is not possible to choose a subreport. The wizard loads for a short time and then displays no workspaces and no reports:PeterMa_0-1718178648775.png

This makes it impossible to insert a subreport.

  • When the report is opened as local file and a subreport is already present, the subreport is first not found:PeterMa_1-1718180897289.png

  • When the subreport is set again in the wizard, the following error occurs when executing the main report:PeterMa_2-1718180990353.png

Which is strange because the personal workspace is 'Unauthorized' and every other workspace i have access to works fine.

When all of these reports are published to workspaces other than the personal workspace, everything works fine.

The "other" workspace which was used for testing has Premium-Capacity and the personal workspace was set to "Pro", but according to the official documentation, only Pro-Capacity is needed to publish paginated reports to other workspaces and free license for personal workspace: Power BI Report Builder - Power BI | Microsoft Learn. So this should not be an issue.

This behaviour was confirmed on Versions 15.7.1807.730 and 15.7.1809.28. The issues did not occur on Version 15.7.1806.11.

Best Regards

Hi @PeterMa ,

This issue could occur if the subreport doesn’t exist in the same workspace or if the user doesn’t have access to the subreport. Make sure the subreport is in the same workspace and that you have the necessary permissions to access it. Also, ensure that the main report doesn’t have more than 50 unique subreports.

Best regards.

Hello,

thank you for your reply.

Regarding your suggestions:
"This issue could occur if the subreport doesn’t exist in the same workspace or if the user doesn’t have access to the subreport."

As described in the original post, the issue occurs when both the main report and the subreport are in the personal workspace. So they are in the same workspace. And I would assume that a user has full access to his personal workspace.

"Also, ensure that the main report doesn’t have more than 50 unique subreports."

The workspace in question has about 4 Reports in it.

I also looked at the troubleshooting steps, but my Problem didn't match any of the descriptions.

Best regards
