Power BI Embedded Reports Stopped Loading today, moved to PowerBi.js v2.16.5 fixed it

Our reports just ended up not loading, and we were getting some error trying to read the property of undefined objects....

By chance, we just upgraded the powerbi.js files on our dev and test environments, and I remember seeing some object references being changed.  Test and dev worked, so we decided to just move this up the chain which fixed everything.

Whatever happened today broke our site, thankfully we were able to have a solution to get it back quickly, but concerned that it happened with lack of notice.

Does anyone know what happened?  Why did moving from 2.16.1 => 2.16.5 fix today's issue, and if today's issue was anticipated, want blog or newsletter list should we be on to get notice about something like this in the future?

Does anybody know where the repo is for powerbi.js?  The github I'm used to is several versions behind... there must be another one out there somewhere...

That's 2.14.1?  Where's whatever is pumping out 2.16.5?
