Power BI Desktop won't open. Stuck on "Initializing Model"...

please help. I've been having this issue for several weeks and have tried many things.

Have checked all your previous tickets with the issue reported. But it does not seem you've found a consistent fix (or at least one that works on my machine). I've tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions. Have uninstalled/reinstalled. Please point me to a solution. Thank you.

Did you receive the file well?  It is quite large so  I just wanted to make sure it was in the right hands.

Thanks

I've received the dump file and sent mail to related team to investigate on this issue.

I’ll post here once I get any update about it.

Does the problem happen on several company Desktop or only one?

@rcojoe, which Anti-virus software are you using?

Hi. @v-haibl-msft  No antivirus software is being used except for windows defender.  We do have it going through a watchguard firewall but there are no port restrictions on outbound traffic for this particular PC.  This is being used on a Dell Percision T5500 with dual monitor setup.   It does work on other PC's but not this particualar one that is connected to our data sources.  It has a fresh install of windows 7 pro in Janurary.

Is everything about security is up to date on the machine? Does the latest dotNet for Win 7 is installed?

If you don’t find a solution by upgrading the software, it will be faster to consider to rebuild the machine.

So I found a backdoor to solving the problem... this is for everyone who is having the same issue...

I completely uninstalled all the Power BI files on my machine. I then created a new OS user profile. Logged in and downloaded the latest version of Power BI x64. Ran it and it worked. I then tried logging into my regular OS user profile. It works there too.

Not sure what is creating the problem. but at least it's working for me now.

You can also try with the solution provided by smj013 to see if it works.

I tried what smj013 describes and it doesn't work. I still get "We weren't able to connect to the model" on launch.

This is on a brand new Windows 10 laptop with virtually nothing installed.

Hi, Did you get any solution? I am also stuck and can't go further than "Initiliaizing model" after the instalation. I tried with 32bit & 64bit (ma laptop runs on 64bits). Thanks for your help
