Power BI Desktop won't open. Stuck on "Initializing Model"...

please help. I've been having this issue for several weeks and have tried many things.

Have checked all your previous tickets with the issue reported. But it does not seem you've found a consistent fix (or at least one that works on my machine). I've tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions. Have uninstalled/reinstalled. Please point me to a solution. Thank you.

The spash screen comes up with "initializing Model" for 1 minute.  Then the splash screen goes away and a new screen comes up and says "Unable to Start Power Bi Desktop" "We weren't able to connect to the model."

Do you have lavasoft on your machine? If yes, please uninstall lavasoft dlls with the instructions below. Please follow both Step 1 & 2.

Step 1 Uninstall Lavasoft Web Companionhttp://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/support/supportcenter/technicalproblems/faqs/how-to-uninstall-ada...

Step 2 Uninstall the LavasoftTcpService.dll after uninstalling Web Companion, please:
a. Start Command Prompt as an administrator by right-clicking it and selecting "Run as administrator."
b. Enter the this command to reset the network adapter: "netsh winsock reset" without the quotation marks and hit Enter.
c. Restart the computer.
d. Delete these two files: C:\WINDOWS\system32\LavasoftTcpService64.dll C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\LavasoftTcpService.dll
That should allow you to delete the file successfully.

If above solution does not work, and you are a pro user, you can create a support ticket at http://support.powerbi.com (see bottom of page).

If you are not a pro user, could you please provide the OS infomation and the dump log to us?

I do not have lavasoft. I know that was the response to someone else who had the same problem. However that ticket was never resolved. That's why I posted a new ticket. I hope you can help! Sounds like this problem is not entirely uncommon.

I do have dumping turned on but the program does not seem to be crashing,  its gracefully exiting with this screen:

This shows up after 1 minute.

Here is my os info:

Let me know what the next steps are.  This was a fresh install 5 months ago.  I'm using an ATI firepro video card.  Its a factory dell percisision T5500.

Looking further,  my tracelogs are empty.  All of them are 0 bytes in the

AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Traces\Performance

folder

my msmdsv.log contains 6 lines:

Do you have McAfee installed on your machine?

You can try to get dump file through task manager as below.

Any other ideas? Would like to get this resolved soon.

@v-haibl-msftI just sent you a private link to my dump file I made with task manager.  Very easy to do with your instructions.  I hope it can be used to help @smj013 and I out.

Thanks
