Power BI Desktop on Windows 11 through parallels on a Mac M1 crashing upon opening

Howdy friends,

3 year user here. I'm running an M1 Mac with 12.6.1 Monterey, Parallels Desktop 18, with Windows 11. Using Power BI 32 bit has worked well for me for a few months but lately it crashes upon opening about 90 percent of the time. I have allocated 8gb RAM.

("Something Went Wrong: External Component Has thrown An Exception") no other details given.

≈ I can only resolve this by uninstalling and reinstalling and then it will work for about .... a day.

I haven't switched to a PC because it's my work machine and they only give us Adobe Creative Suite (which I also use) on a Mac. Anyone have similar wonky things happening? I am having such a hard time!

Hi @cynthiabucher

Download the version of Power BI Desktop that matches the architecture (x86 or x64) of your Windows OS. Run the EXE installer and follow the setup steps.

Maybe you can update your Desktop to the latest version and try again .

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

Yes, I am indeed running the 32 bit required for my system, and I downloaded the exe from the official download center as noted.  I am having to uninstall and reinstall everytime it starts crashing again which is daily.

@cynthiabucher  - did you manage to resolve this?

I'm experiencing the same issue on a newly built VM with the latest Power BI Download

I did - I uninstalled Power BI for the millionth time and downloaded it from the windows store again - instead of from the website, and it worked this time. Try that!
