New/existing Measures: Format could not be changed to 'Text'

Dear Power BI community,

unfortunatelly I'm not able to change my measure formats to 'Text' in multible semantic models. This issue occurs for new and existing explicit measures in Power BI Desktop and Tabular Editor 2. Without this functionality I'm not able to apply conditional formating logic or use SVG DAX measures.

Power BI Desktop (MS Store) - Version: 2.126.1261.0 64-bit (Februar 2024)

If I try to change measure format to 'Text' in Power BI Desktop it falls back to default format 'General'.

Tabular Editor 2 - Version: 2.22.0

Format 'Text' is not available via dropdown menu in section Basic/Format String/Format.

Is this a bug?

Thanks for helping

Hi @Proofinity ,

I can't reproduce your problem, I created a measure="This is text", as per your sample.
Format is still the text option and it works fine for me.
I see you mentioned that you are using the MS store version, would downloading the latest version from the official download link solve your problem?

Download Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

Best regards.

Hi Community Support Team,

Thanks for you quick response. I've deinstalled my MS Store version and installed the version from Official Microsoft Download Center. Both versions seems to have same version numbers: 2.126.1261.0

Unfortunatelly the experience is still the same, format change not possible. Also checked the posibility in model view in Power BI Desktop.

What else could I try? 🤔

Hello Fabric Community,

I wanted to share an update regarding an issue I recently encountered while working with new measures in Power BI Desktop. After a detailed discussion with Microsoft Support, we were able to pinpoint a general bug affecting the creation and formatting of new measures.

Microsoft has acknowledged this problem and is currently working on a fix. We can expect a patch to be released in early August. Given this resolution and the expected update, I'll be closing the related support ticket.

If you're experiencing similar issues, please be on the lookout for the upcoming fix. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further details on the matter.

Thank you for your attention, and let's keep our systems running smoothly!

Best regards,

Christian

Hi Chen,

Yes, this issue has been resolved by Microsoft. I encountered the same problem where the text format option was not available when formatting a measure. The solution was provided under Tracking ID #2403140050001781 and was implemented in early August.

May I ask if the measure was created in the semantic model or directly in the thin report? There are still some bugs in thin reports, where any new measure created via Power BI Desktop is initially formatted as a decimal number. This format can only be changed afterward. If you're still experiencing this issue, I recommend reaching out to Microsoft for further assistance.

Best regards, Christian
