New App Experience - Unable to 'Save a copy'

After updating an App with the new experience, users can't 'Save a copy' of the reports in the App.

 

This is with 'Allow people to build content with the datasets on this app.' setting enabled.

I also need this feature in my org! Most of my users use this option.

Hi All,

 

Update on September 27th.

We got the feedback from PG team:

 

“For save a report, can following two be workarounds for this -

#1: Share the access to the workspace to the needed users, and allow them to save a copy from the workspace directly.
#2: Create a workspace which will contain the copies of the reports, and have users save a copy of the needed report. The original report will reside on other workspace.”

 

 

“Please assure your customers know that we are working on the feature, however it would take time to fully bake in the functionality again into the experience

Also, please inform the customers that there is no way for us to immediately roll back this feature for a single tenant.”

I really hope you are able to bring the copy report option back, as both of those options have their flaws and would demand end-user training.

 

Share the access to the workspace to the needed users, and allow them to save a copy from the workspace directly.

 

To be able to save a copy of a report, users need at least contributor access to the workspace and that means they will also have a create, edit, and delete access to the workspace. I want to be able to offer self-service capabilities to my end-users in a way that doesn’t involve risks of someone editing or deleting something by accident. So this option is really a no-go.

 

Create a workspace which will contain the copies of the reports, and have users save a copy of the needed report. The original report will reside on other workspace.

 

This means that every time I’m publishing a report, I need to do extra work to keep things rolling and updated as I need to worry about that other version too. Also it means that the privacy provided by a copy report feature in an app is lost, as the versions are no longer private for the person making the copy (my workspace), but everyone can see them. This is by far a better option of these too, but it does raise the self-service barrier a bit for the end users and it demands extra maintenance. So I can’t be happy with either of these.

These workarounds are only temporary solutions, engineers are testing and working to improve this feature, please be patient.😉

This issue needs to be set to a higher priority. It's ridiculous to get answers from MS that we should be patient. An existing and used feature for production clients was removed. To say this was a little used feature is laughable. Where did MS get that information? Not from clients. The workarounds are not usable for multi-tenant clients in a production environment.

 

A clear timeline, other than "be patient", should be communicated out. This was a bad mis-step for MS and our clients. All our training documentation and demos include and promote this feature. Now clients have to be told MS removed it without warning through "an upgrade". Our clients lose trust in Power BI if features can be removed at will with no warning.

Any news about this topic?

We never receved a feedback since September and now we are in December.

Our customer need this functionality and we cannot to open the workspace to all users as a solution.
