How to set a defalut date selection on a date filter

I have requirement to show data as of today or yesetrday, so that data is filtered for a default date of today or yesterday. I could see option to filter at data query level by doign today filter on a date column but this is pretty much data for a day and does not allow user to change the date filter after viewing data for defalt date selection. Any help is highly appreciated.
