Google sheet data download stopped working today

I use  google sheets links in a number of my reports and as of this morning I got the same error message that they weren't automatically updated . After further inspection (in PBI desktop) I found out that these connection don't download data they are supposed to but some gibberish in html (I attach the picture). I tried the links and when I put them in browser they work correctly as they download what PBI is supposed to but doesn't. I need an urgent help, thanks.

Hello! Have the same problem. It seems to be PBI service problem. You can find some workaround in my question here: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Problem-with-data-sources-connection-in-PBI-Desktop/m-p/150...

First solution, in the share button activate the option "anyone who has this link" and that's it.

Solution for those who do not have the option to leave the link open as public or do not wish to do so

https:  //docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/{your ID}/export?format=xlsx&id={your ID}

In the link above, replace by the ID of your document that is, "{your ID}" by your "ID"

change the resulting link to the one you currently have in BI and voila.

Note.- your ID is in the URL of the sheet, it is the one between "https:  //docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/" and "/ view # gid = 64684168867"

Hello people!

Thank you all for your suggestions. It really allowed me somehow to revive my report (without changing privacy because my NDA forbids it)

So, some of my resources come back with the next steps:

  • Click the gear icon near your source and change source to CSV Document press OKEugeniaBochko_3-1606202459637.png

  • If you have the table below change the source back to Excel Workbook or if (It worked not for all my resources)

OR if you originally downloaded the CSV source, then replace it with Excel, and then again with CSV.

  • Then If you have the following table change back source to Excel Workbook and do the next steps:EugeniaBochko_5-1606202480862.png

  • Open you online google sheet
  • Publish Entire Document to Microsoft Excel
  • Add new source with such link (with your document code) “”https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vSG32i7unNJg84UyCA-Nxa34SwP9P4a5zgm8cSaUAij40_L3ffwEiaANCc1F-iDVXFyjiJ_UKs-cnk2/pub?format=xlsx&id=2PACX-1vSG32i7unNJg84UyCA-Nxa34SwP9P4a5zgm8cSaUAij40_L3ffwEiaANCc1F-iDVXFyjiJ_UKs-cnk2””
  • Then you can see your sheets with names like Table 1, Table 2…choose appropriate
  • Unfortunately, you should perform all you applied steps as in your old source.

Given steps worked for me. I hope it helps you with something
