@riyasiak I do not think it is Power BI Desktop itself causing this. We did not update the app and the PDF's were clipped from one to the next. I can only assume an update from Windows caused this behaviour.

Hi everyone,

The root problem is the add-in 'Microsoft Edge Webview2' that renders the visualisations in Power BI (it must have updated to a glitchy version in a Windows update). If you update this to the latest version it fixes the exporting to pdf problem that everyone is facing in Power BI desktop.

Go to 'Add or Remove Programs' then search for Webview and click on Modify. Then select the option to 'Repair' and it will update it to the latest version. Version 118.0.2088.76 fixed it for me and my colleagues. Note that you will need admin rights to install the latest version.

Thanks for the tip, but repairing does not help here, I end-up with the same version. According to below v2088.69 is the latest version but you sport v2088.76

Never mind, I found it here and can confirm this works, cheers!...

I can confirm that  @miguel_bachmann  answer (Re-installing Webview 2) did correct the issue;  Using PowerBI Desktop (Version: 2.122.746.0 64-bit (October 2023) on Widows 11.

There were no PowerBI updates, nor Windows Updates performed before issue stared or after the fix.  All that was changed was WebView 2.

You may also try the following steps and check if this issue can be solved.

  1. Launch Power BI Desktop
  2. Once it's running, open the Task Manager and expand Power BI Desktop:

  3. Right-click on the WebView2 GPU Process and select "Properties"
  4. Go to the "Details" tab and confirm the version number is >= 118.0.2088.76
If this version is higher than 118.0.2088.76, please download and try the fixed version runtime for 117.0.2045.60 here: https://msedge.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/7c1ee55b-f219-4550-bdb7-08...
  5. Extract the cab file using a tool like 7-zip (https://www.7-zip.org/)
  6. Set the environment variable WebView2FixedVersionFolder to the file path. Ex:
    WebView2FixedVersionFolder
  7. C:\users\bwayne\Downloads\Microsoft.WebView2.FixedVersionRuntime.117.0.2045.60.x64
  8. Launch Power BI Desktop and confirm through the Task Manager that version 117 is being used.

Hope it helps!

Best regards.

This last suggestion (Repairing Webview as described) worked for me.  I had been using the workaround of publishing and exporting to PDF from online version - That worked ok, but I had to make several tweaks to resize a few matrices where scroll bars were added - It seems online renders to PDF slighly differently than the desktop version.  Thanks for the solution!
