Error: Access to the path is denied

When I open any Power BI desktop project on my virtual machine I get

Error: Access to the path 'D:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\temp.User.zip' is denied.

I have tried:

1) Checking the permissions of temp.User.zip and user.zip, they are both set to full control.

2) Unistalling, logging off and reinstalling Power BI.

3) Opening Power BI as an administrator.

4) Moving the location of temp.user.zip however it creates a new version of this file when I open a new pbix file.

Currently I am unable to use Power BI, any suggestions on the best way to fix this?

Hi @psb18,

I know you already try something, but I would suggest you check below things again:

1. I would suggest you double check if your windows account log on the computer has full control with the temp.User.zip and user.zip.

2. Please restart computer, uninstall desktop and install the latest Power BI desktop 2.61.5192.601. Run the Power BI desktop as administrator to see if the same issue occurs.

3. Please check if there is a virus protection software installed on the same machine. If it does, could you try instructing the virus protection software on that computer to ignore the "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop" directory?

I receive the same error and have tried everything psb18 has.

In answer to Qiuyun's questions: -

1. Yes it does

2. Done several times to latest version

3. I work for a company with thousands of members of staff. To get them to change my AV would take ages. Is there no fix for this?
