Bug with PowerBI Map visualisation - ZA and SA both shown on map as South Africa

Hi, I have a data presented in Map visualisation (Map from standard PowerBI visualisations) and just dicovered that data for Saudi Arabia (ISO code SA) is shown on the map in place where South Africa is located (South Africa code is ZA -> the data for ZA are displayed correctly, so I have two bubbles in South Africa and no bubble over Saudi Arabia).

Could you please check and fix this? It worked correctly few months ago. The correct codes are SA for Saudi Arabia and ZA for South Africa.

Yes, sure... I wanted to send some files as answer for the email but seems this not works... so I post it here.

I have some dummy sales for different countries including ZA (South Africa) and SA (Saudi Arabia) according the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes.

And I created the Map visualisation with Country (set as location), sales (set as bublle size) and region (put as legent - to have bubbles within one region in the same colour).

I put 400 for SA to have the buuble bigger (to see it on map), all other are 100$... Bubble for SA should be on the Middle East, close to UAE, Kuwait etc.. .and not on South of Africa as it's now.

I noticed this about month ago... When I created this visualisation two years ago, it worked correctly, it was OK still about 3 or 4 months ago.... Bug is since few weeks, maybe few months.

So this looks like SA is wrongly mapped by MS (PowerBI) on their maps... or MS changed the codes and no more use ISO codes (which one is used for Saudi Arabia in this case?). I guess this is bug, not change of mapping... So please report this issue to MS team.

Hello,

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I have several countries with data, two of which are ZA = South Africa and SA = Saudi Arabia. However, both values are represented on the map visual as the country of South Africa.

Is there an update to the backend mapping of the Power BI visual, or is there a way to modify via Power BI desktop?

Thanks

Another country wrongly displayed is CR (Costa Rica). It is shown on the map in Europe, in the place where are situated Czechia (Czech Republic = CZ).

Hey there,

Following up on my previous post. No support yet from Mircrosoft, but we found a work-around to make the map visual work. We just spelled out the full country names in a lookup table and used the full country name as the "Location" for the visual. This works as long as all countries are spelled correctly.

Thanks and good visualizing!
