Fabric Data Agent -- M365 Issue

Hi,

I am trying to follow this doc for integrating Data Agent in M365- while there is no step for MCP integration, I am getting the issue as per below SC. The data agent got deployed, but its unable to read data from underlying source. Its giving 0 for all questions.

Hi @A454A,

I understand you are referring to the Data Agents functionality in Microsoft Fabric. There are several key points to consider:

  1. Current status of Data Agents
As you may know, Data Agents have recently reached GA, and since the Ignite event, they now have direct integration with Microsoft Teams.
  2. Integration with Teams
It would be helpful to understand how you are connecting the Data Agent to Teams:
  • Through Copilot Studio
  • Or directly from Fabric
  1. Data access permissions
To retrieve information, users inherit their own permissions. This means:
  • If a user tries to access data they do not have permission for, they will receive an error.
  1. Recommendations
  • I recommend testing first in the Data Agent Playground to ensure everything is working correctly.
  • It is also a good practice to include instructions so that, if the user does not have access, the agent clearly states that access is denied.

I’ll stay tuned for your feedback, and if you manage to resolve it, it would be great to know what the issue was.

Hello @A454A  - The data agent will respect the permissions of the underlying data sources.  This means that end-users must have permissions to the data sources.  If you were the creator of the agent, then go back to the data agent item and check the points listed below.

  • Interact with the agent to test it out - do you get answers from the data sources?
  • Republish the agent, to ensure that it includes the latest updates you made.
  • Allow a few minutes for updates to be made across platforms.
  • In M365, confirm you are interacting with the right data agent (the name should match the data agent item name in Fabric).
  • Retest in M365.

Please let me know how it goes.

If this post helps to answer your questions, please consider marking it as a solution so others can find it more quickly when faced with a similar challenge.
