MS Developer Registration - Sandbox Subscription - Registration Closed

Dear all,

We are happy to hack all together, however are facing some issues with getting our team started on the sandbox environment. First we tried all to register, alas - none of us are "current qualify for a Microsoft 365 Developer Program sandbox subscription".

Scouting around MS forums we came to see this response:

Is there a plan to provide hackathon participants with access to the sandbox or do you propose alternatives?

Best wishes

Is there a workaround to activate the trial on trial accounts that have the Fabric trial option greyed out?

Thank you!

If you are using an existing organizational account that does not have trial enabled, you can follow the steps here to create your own organizational account which should allow you to proceed: https://aka.ms/upgrade-to-fabric

@PowerDeveloped,

We're excited that you will be joining us for the Microsoft Fabric Global AI Hack!  The M365 Developer Program has undergone recent updates that now require a paid Visual Studio subscription in order to enable Sandbox features.

However, I have confirmed a workaround can be achieved by following steps here: Sign up for Power BI with a new Microsoft 365 Trial - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Note: This will require providing a payment method and will enable recurring billing after 30 days (which can be disabled with additional steps).  This will be mentioned during the registration process:

Upon activation, you can disable the recurring billing manually by logging into https://admin.microsoft.com/ with the newly created organizational account, then navigate to Billing => Your Products and select the 3 dots next to the newly created Office 365 subscription.  From there you can turn off recurring billing as shown:

At this point you should now be able to proceed with activating the Fabric Trial by navigating to https://app.fabric.microsoft.com, logging in with the newly created organization account, then selecting "Start Trial" by selecting the account manager icon in the upper-right of the Power BI / Fabric UI.
