Understanding Fabric capacity metrics app: Inprogress status with available End Time

I am using the Fabric Capacity metrics App to analyze the utilisation that happened today. For some of the processes i can still see the status of being in progress while the end time has been populated? how is that possible?

This has been an ongoing bug since Fabric was announced. Notebooks and SQL queries show as in progress or failed when they really succeeded. It's posted on the known issues site.

Hopefully they fix it at some point.

I've also added columns for 'Smoothing Start' and 'End'. If a notebook that ran yesterday is still showing as 'in progress' today, I can check and it's usually because the 'Smoothing' started 24 hours ago. Even though the notebook has run and cleared, the 'Smoothing' is keeping it on the list.

I created a custom visual for that to show the background activity (the box on the left), the smoothing period (box on the right) and the CU cost (height of the box)

Hi @mkj1213 ,

Based on the screenshot, it looks like when you use the Fabric Capacity metrics App, some of the processes are still marked as “Inprogress” even though they are populated with end times.

I think there are two reasons for this:

The status may not be updated in real time due to delays in data synchronization between different parts of the system.

If the system processes data in batches, the status may show “Inprogress” until the entire batch is processed, even if the individual processes have finished.
