We're currently in a Fabric Trial, and I'm new to Fabric/Power BI, but I'm trying to create a semantic models from one of our Lakehouses in a Workspace that is in a Trial capacity and I get a fairly generic error:
Activity ID: d26d9a5d-24fe-4de7-b9ba-92d439c849a5

Client version: 2511.1.26629-train
Cluster URI: https://wabi-us-central-b-primary-redirect.analysis.windows.net/This happens whether I try to create the semantic model from the Lakehouse where I select the tables on creation, or if I create a new semantic model and then try to add the tables.
I have other lakehouses in the same Workspace where I can create a semantic model without any issues.
Initially I was able to create a semantic model, but it wouldn't refresh. I deleted that model and tried again, but now it gives and error and just creates an empty semantic model.
The trial is a F64, and we haven't come anywhere close to hitting capacity. I was unsure whether refreshing should even be a thing with what I would think are DirectLake tables (I'm a bit fuzzy abut that) - but I don't really need to refresh, it's more that the tables (the one time I was even able to add them to a sematic model) couldn't be queried (e.g. in DAX).
The fact that it affects one Lakehouse and not others seems like it's some kind of issue with this particular Lakehouse, and I may just try copying things over to another one, but that's an unsatisfying resolution for a service we're doing a Trial of.
I recommend you raise a support ticket with Microsoft through the Support Center. They may help you get a more detailed error message. In the ticket submit the generic error message, so they can use the ID's to find the specific activity that raised the error.
Hi @AndrewDMay,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.
Thank you @nielsvdc for the prompt response.
As we haven’t heard back from you, we wanted to kindly follow up to check that as the user suggested have you raised the support ticket? Is your issue resolved?
Thanks and regards,
Anjan Kumar Chippa
As we're in a Fabric Trial we do not appear to have the ability to create a support ticket.
I have been able to create a Semantic Model from a different Lakehouse since I posted here, so it does appear to be an issue with that particular Lakehouse for some reason.
So for now, I'm going to chalk this up as a bug in Fabric that I can't do anything about.
Hi @AndrewDMay,
Thank you for the update. Since the issue is isolated to that specific Lakehouse and you are able to create semantic models from others in the same workspace, it does appear to be a product side issue rather than something you can fix from your end.
As you are on a Trial capacity and cannot open a support ticket, your approach is reasonable.
If the issue persists after moving to a full capacity later, you can raise a support ticket and the team will be able to investigate it further.

Hi @AndrewDMay, when you only have a Fabric trial capacity, the limitation is that you cannot refresh a model. This functionality requires a Pro license.
Depending on you trial capacity, which could be a F4 or a F64, might have already hit your daily limit of CU usage? But something you can try is to see if you can start a Pro license trial. As it's unclear from the error what the process is running into, you might to have some trial and error processing to find how to get it working again.
