Unable to Delete Notebook or Create New One – Trial Capacity Fully Consumed
Hi everyone,
I’m currently using the 60-day Microsoft Fabric trial and have run into a blocking issue related to capacity:
- I have a notebook that appears idle (no active jobs, no environment, no visible dependencies).
- I’ve deleted all environments and cleared the job history.
- The notebook still cannot be deleted — I get an error, but the message is truncated and disappears quickly.
- I tried exporting and re-importing the notebook into “My workspace,” but import fails.
- I also cannot create a new notebook — I get a message saying “Fabric compute capacity has been exceeded.”
I’ve installed the Capacity Metrics App, but it only shows historical data and no active sessions.
I attempted to open a support request, but the support pane won’t load, likely due to the same capacity issue.
I’m posting under the Capacities label in hopes that someone from the community or Microsoft can help:
- Is there a way to force-delete the notebook?
- Can trial capacity be reset or unlocked manually?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Unless your "My Workspace" is on a P or F capacity (not really recommended) you won't be able to do Fabric stuff on that workspace.
If you have a Pro license you can open a Pro ticket at https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/newsupportticket/powerbi
Otherwise you can raise an issue at https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues . - rohit1991

Hi RyanAtVyanet ,
This is a common issue when the Microsoft Fabric trial capacity is fully consumed, unfortunately, it blocks almost all actions (even deleting or creating notebooks). Here are some options you can try:
-
Hard Refresh: Sometimes logging out, waiting a few minutes, and logging back in can clear minor UI locks, but it usually won’t free up capacity if it’s truly maxed out.
-
Free Up Space: Try deleting any large datasets, unused dataflows, or old jobs (if any are left). Sometimes capacity is held by hidden artifacts, not just notebooks.
-
Wait for Capacity Reset: Trial capacities may reset daily or at the end of your 60-day window. There’s no manual “reset” option available for trial tenants.
-
Support Limitations: As you noticed, with trial limits reached, even support can be inaccessible.
-
Upgrade Option: The only guaranteed fix is upgrading to a paid (F64 or higher) capacity, which removes these limits instantly.
Force-delete isn’t available in trial environments. If nothing else works, sometimes waiting 24 hours (or until the trial resets some limits) may let you delete or create again.

Hi RyanAtVyanet ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
Thanks for your prompt response
RyanAtVyanet You can try the following workaround to remove the notebooks
Remove Notebooks from Workspace (if possible)Rename the notebook first, then delete.Move it to another workspace if one is available and try deletion there. If you have access to OneLake Explorer via Azure Storage Explorer, check for residual files and delete manually.
