Hi Team,
I want to connect a PostgreSQL database in a private network to Microsoft Fabric. For that, I've installed the gateway on my local desktop, and I've configured the on-premise gateway on Fabric, and it looks fine.
The connection status says it is "Online." Please find below the region of my services.
Azure Tenant — Central india
Fabric Capacity — Central india
On-Prem Gateway — West India
Data stored — West India (Mumbai)
I am able to connect the PostgreSQL database through Dataflow Gen2. But not able through Copy activity.
If I change the region for the on-prem gateway to Central India, it is not visible in Fabric.
Please provide a solution on an urgent basis.

Did you install the on-prem gateway with a different user, than the one you use in Fabric? In that case you need to share it with your fabric user:
You can do this as follows.
1 In fabric go to settings and selectc "manage connections and gateways"
2 Go to the tab On-premises data gateways and slide "Tenant administration" to on
3 Share the gateway with the user you use in Fabric (for us those users are different),
a Select the gateway and schoose manage users by clicking on the three dots
b Search for the fabric user in the search box and select it
c select the user (who is now in the list) and give the user the the correct permissions (admin in my case). Use a role that suits your need
4 press "share"
Now if you want to create a connector it will show up.
The above is what tripped me up in the past a few times, since our gateway user and fabric users are different for security reasons.
Hope this helps, if so please mark it as a solution
Cheers
Hans
Thanks for the response.
We are aware that the gateway region should be the same as the fabric capacity. So for that we installed Gateway in Central India only, but in that case my Gateway was not visible in the Fabric portal or pipeline. PFA screenshot. My data was stored in West India. Could you please confirm this will not create an issue in the on-prem gateway?
Hi @Raushan_kumar19,
You are right the on-premises data gateway must match the region of the Fabric capacity, not the region where your data is stored. In your case your Fabric capacity is in Central India, which is what the gateway must align with. And your data is stored in West India (Mumbai) will not cause any issue. Storage location and gateway region are treated separately in Fabric. If you’ve already installed the gateway in Central India but it wasn’t visible in the Fabric portal or pipeline, here are a couple of quick things to double-check:
* During installation, ensure the gateway was registered successfully in Central India under the same tenant and same account that owns the Fabric workspace.
* In the Fabric portal, verify that the workspace is indeed backed by Central India capacity.
* After installation, go to Power Platform Admin Center -> Data Gateways and confirm that the region shown there is Central India.
* Finally, give it a minute or two after installation sometimes there’s a short delay before the gateway appears under connections.
To confirm that the data being stored in West India won’t cause any issues with your on-premises gateway or Copy activity. What matters for the gateway to be usable in pipelines is the region of the Fabric capacity, and that needs to match the gateway region.

Hammad.
Hi @v-mdharahman ,
As adviced , we checked and we verified our Gateway is in central india and Our Fabric workspace is also in central india and we are usking free trial and also we checked in power platform admin portal and our gateway is listed in central india but our gateway is not visible in Fabric portal.PFB screenshot, and it is possible to connect with you, as it is a priority for us.
Hi @Raushan_kumar19,
Microsoft Fabric does support on-premises data gateways in Data Factory pipelines, including Copy activities, but only under specific conditions like you must use gateway version 3000.214.2 or higher and the gateway region must match the Fabric capacity region. As the feature is available in public preview and is still evolving, trial capacity environments have shown inconsistent behavior and limited reliability when using on-premises gateways in Copy activities.
Also kindly go through the response by @smeetsh and check if the issue can be resolved.
And if none of the above helped in solving your issue, at this point it may be worth opening a support ticket with Microsoft. You can reach out to Microsoft Support by raising a ticket with Microsoft Support.

Hi @v-mdharahman ,
Thanks for reaching out us. Problem is still there. Today we are doing one round of more invetigation as adviced by @smeetsh . We will create one VM and and then install new on prem gateway with same Fabric capacity region and try to give access to user ifit work then fine otherwise we will look alternate solution
Hi @smeetsh @v-mdharahman ,
We did whatever you advised. We implemented the same approaches, but still, in the Fabric portal, our on-prem gateway is not visible. Please advise us now what should we do.
Just to make sure, there are 2 versions of a gateway. One of them is a "personal" one, make sure not to use that version (I am probably kicking in an open door, but I just want to make sure:) ) PS also make sure the server that runs the gateway has the recomended specs, that caught us out in over test environment lol
yeah we are not using personal gateway and we tried everything that you adviced but we didn't get any luck
Hi @Raushan_kumar19,
As none of the above responses helped, at this point it may be worth opening a support ticket with Microsoft.

Hi @Raushan_kumar19,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum amd for sharing the detailed information and screenshots. Based on what you've described and shown, your setup for the on-premises data gateway looks correct it’s online and working fine for Dataflow Gen2. However, the reason you are unable to use the gateway in the Copy activity comes down to a region mismatch as already mentioned by @rohit1991. Kindly go through the response provided by @rohit1991 and check if your issue can be resolved.
I would also take a moment to thank @rohit1991, for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.
If I misunderstand your needs or you still have problems on it, please feel free to let us know.
Best Regards,
Hammad.
Hi @Raushan_kumar19 ,
You’ve set up your on-premises data gateway correctly and confirmed it is online and able to connect to your PostgreSQL database for Dataflow Gen2 in Microsoft Fabric. However, the main reason you can’t see your gateway as an option in Copy activity is region mismatch. In Microsoft Fabric (as with Power BI), the region where your gateway is registered must match the region of your workspace or Fabric capacity to be available for activities like Copy in Data Factory experiences.
In your scenario, your gateway is registered in West India, while your Azure tenant and Fabric capacity are in Central India. Even though you can use the gateway for Dataflow Gen2 (which can sometimes be more flexible with regional mapping), Copy activity in Fabric is more restrictive and will only surface gateways that are in the same region as your Fabric workspace.
Solution:
Reinstall and register your on-premises data gateway in Central India, which matches your Fabric capacity and workspace region.
When you run the gateway installer, select Central India as the region during registration.
Once the gateway is registered in Central India, it will show up as a connection option for Copy activity in Fabric.
Extra Note:
If you have legacy data or gateways in a different region, you may need to coordinate with your admin team or Microsoft support to migrate resources or clean up unused gateway registrations.
