Power BI error- ServerError_AdalGrantHasExpiredDueToPasswordChangeErrorCode
Hi Team,
One of my teammates is facing an issue while opening a report. I am the owner of the semantic model used as the source for this report, but the teammate is not able to see any data.
The error shown is:
ServerError_AdalGrantHasExpiredDueToPasswordChangeErrorCode
Scenario
- I am the owner of the semantic model.
- The report is connected to this semantic model.
- My teammate has access to the report, but when opening it, no data is visible.
- The screenshot shows the error banner at the top of the report page.
Questions- What exactly causes this error in this scenario?
- Is this related to:
- expired credentials,
- password change for the data source account,
- OAuth token issue,
- or semantic model connection settings?
- Since I am the semantic model owner, what steps should I take to fix this for all users?
- Does my teammate need to do anything on their side, or is this only an owner/admin refresh credential issue-how to do it?
Any guidance on how to troubleshoot and resolve this would be really helpful.
Thanks!
Hi Shreya_Barhate,
Based on how that is greyed out, I think you are not the owner of the model. At the top of the settings page there is a "this model has been configured by....." message and a button for you to take it over.
Once you take it over and are the owner of it, then the data sources tab will be accessible for you and you can reset the connection

Hi Shreya_Barhate ,
The error ServerError_AdalGrantHasExpiredDueToPasswordChangeErrorCode typically indicates that the OAuth token used by the semantic model's data source credentials is no longer valid. This can happen if the account password was changed, expired, reset, or the token was revoked.
To help narrow down the issue:
Can other users view data in the report?
If not, the issue is likely with the semantic model credentials.
Does the semantic model refresh fail?
Check the Refresh History for similar authentication errors. As the semantic model owner, please review the Data Source Credentials in the semantic model settings and re-authenticate if necessary. If a gateway is being used, verify and update the gateway data source credentials as well.
In most cases, report consumers do not need to take any action. Once the credentials are updated and the semantic model refresh succeeds, the report should be accessible again.
Hope this helps.- Shreya_BarhateResolver II

Hi Shreya_Barhate,
Can you expand the gateway and cloud connections section and post a screenshot?

Hi Shreya_Barhate,
Go into the semantic model settings and reset all credentials used, there is a connection that is tied to a user account somewhere, and that user changed their password.
