Need Help Recovering Notebooks and Pipelines After Fabric Trial Expiration

Hello everyone,

My Microsoft Fabric trial has expired, and all the content in my workspace has disappeared. I suspect it may have been deleted due to the trial expiration.

I would like to recover my development work (notebooks, pipelines, scripts, etc.) so that I can back it up before any permanent deletion occurs.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Is there any way to regain temporary access to the workspace or recover the code after a Fabric trial has expired?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @MichelBios , as I mentioned on my article All About Fabric Capacity Free Trials  ...

"Microsoft enforces strict limits on trial usage to prevent abuse and manage resources, the most important rules to understand are the following:

[...]

#4. Fabric items will be deleted 7 days after the trial expires. When the trial expires, access to the capacity is revoked immediately and all workspaces and items (lakehouses, notebooks, pipelines, etc.) enter a ~7‑day grace period during which they can be recovered by reassigning the workspace to a paid capacity, If no reassignment happens within that window, only Power BI–only content may remain accessible under Pro/PPU, the rest is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered."

What you may want to try is this...

#1. Create an F2 capacity from Azure

#2. From Fabric / Admin portal  > Workspaces

#3. Look the workspace and click Actions > Reassign workspace (see image below)

#4. Select your pay capacity created in step #1.

Hopefully, you are withing the grace period and this action would re-activate your workspace for you get your code! If you are beyond the 7-days grace period, there's nothing left to do unfortunately.

Hope this helps!!! Give a try and wish you the very best! A thumbs up if this is helpful and/or mark as solution 😉

Cheers.

For me and in that case, Microsoft Support is your only real option. Contact them urgently and explain:

  • Fabric trial expired.
  • Workspace content is inaccessible
  • You need temporary access solely to export/backup your work

I'm not sure if they can sometimes reactivate the trial capacity for a short window (a few days) specifically for data export purposes. There's no self-service path without an active capacity.

How to reach them:

Try your chance and do this today, the retention period before permanent deletion is not publicly documented, so time is a factor.

Hi @MichelBios,  how long has it been since your trial expired? I fit's been <= 7 days you should be able to recover it by assigning a new capacity. After 7 days everything gets completely locked down and you can't recover it yourself at all. Supposedly Microsoft can recover it if you open a ticket, but I honestly never tried that myself:
