Migrating from ADF to Fabric - Pricing

Hey guys, I'm trying to migrate from ADF to Fabric and I'm curious about the pricing.

We currently have 9 Power Bi Pro licenses and all our pielines live on ADF. What does the pricing look like in this instance? The people with the power Bi licenses don't really use fabric as they just build dashboards, only one person will. Then i have several pipelines on ADF that only 2 people will manage.

Hello @nomusa

You can keep your Power BI Pro licnese for dashboard reporting. MSFT Fabric has capacioty based model insted of per user pricing.

In your case, you can purchase a Fabric license (F2 or F4) and this will be used by one perosn for managing data engineering pipelines and data engineering related tasks and assign your workspace to Fabric capacity. Your Pro license holder will use the same Fabric capacity workspace to buitl dashboards.

Make sure while purchasing the Fabric capcaity license assest your data size and take perfect license. You can estimate your capapcity need here Fabric Capacity Estimator | Microsoft Fabric

You can go thorught Understand Microsoft Fabric Licenses - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn about licenses.

Hope this helps you!]

Thank you!!'

Hello @nomusa

Good to know you're planning to migrate your pipelines from Azure Data Factory to Fabric. Here's a link from Microsoft Learn for customers who are planning on this journey (if you have not found this already!).

In regards to pricing, are you looking to buy a Fabric capacity? You mentioned you have Power BI Pro licenses, however you didn't mention if you're already on Power BI Premium capacity. If you are on Premium capacity, you can develop Fabric on that capacity - no need to buy a new Fabric capacity! Nearly all Fabric workloads are available on Power BI Premium capacities. However, please note that Microsoft is retiring Premium capacities in favour of Fabric capacities, so when you renew you'd have to shift to a Fabric capacity.

Important update to Power BI Premium licensing | Microsoft Licensing Resources

On all Power BI Premium capacities, and also on Fabric capacities higher than F64, there's no need for a Power BI Pro license for viewing Power BI reports/dashboards. On such capacities a Pro license is only used for building Power BI artifacts.

I trust this will be helpful. If you found this guidance useful, you are welcome to acknowledge with a Kudos or by marking it as a Solution.
