Microsoft Fabric Runtime not visible in visual studio Code

our goal is to develop pyspark notebooks on our local notebook using VS code while also using mssparkutils and the remote spark context.

so we followed these instructions https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/data-engineering/setup-vs-code-extension  meticulously and also configured a 1.3 Spark Cluster Environment in Fabric

however we cannot see the "Microsoft Fabric Runtime" as shown in this screenshot here:

What can we do to troubleshoot?

The solution was to use the new synapse Remote vs Code extension:
Fabric Data Engineering VS Code - RemotePreview

the old Fabric Data Engineering VS Code extension didnt work anywhere in our team. especially not when it comes to remote executing spark on the new 1.3 spark cluster types supporting
mssparkutils as part of the code
