Microsoft Fabric Capacity Paused

We have paused our Fabric capacity; will we still incur fabric monthly capacity cost?

Hi @mirmajeed

If your Fabric capacity is paused and you are on Pay-As-You-Go pricing, you will not be charged for monthly capacity (compute) during the paused time, but you will still pay for storage and any accrued overages at the time of pausing

Here are key details for your consideration

Compute Costs: When paused, compute billing is stopped. You do not pay for the Fabric capacity (compute) during the paused period.
• Storage Costs: You will still incur charges for storage (e.g., OneLake storage), as storage billing continues even when compute is paused.
• Overages: Any accumulated overages or smoothed consumption up to the moment of pausing will be billed as a one-time charge when you pause the capacity.
• Reservation Mode Exception: If you purchased Fabric capacity via Azure Reservations (reserved pricing), you will continue to be charged for the capacity during the reservation period, even if it is paused. Only Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) customers benefit from pausing compute costs

Storage is not included in your Fabric capacity tier-you pay for it based on the actual amount of data stored in OneLake, regardless of whether your Fabric capacity is running or paused

OneLake storage is billed at approximately $0.023–$0.026 per GB per month

You can monitor your OneLake storage usage and costs in the Fabric Capacity Metrics app, specifically under the Storage tab

Hi @mirmajeed ,

When you pause your Microsoft Fabric capacity, you do not incur compute charges during the paused period. However, you may still be billed for the reserved capacity, depending on your subscription and billing agreement.

If you're using a Pay-As-You-Go model, pausing the capacity typically stops the charges. But if you're on a reserved capacity plan, the cost is usually incurred regardless of usage.

To get a precise answer, I recommend checking your Azure Cost Management dashboard or contacting Microsoft support for billing-specific details.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the quick response and yes we are on pay as you go pricing. How do I find out about the OneLake Storage cost? I was of the impression that it is included in the fabric capacity tier.
