MS Fabric Semantic Model Backup with ADLS Gen2

Dear Microsoft,

I saw the possibility to backup my semantic models in fabric with storing it in a ADLS Gen2 storage account. I connected my fabric Workspace to a ADLS and the two folders "power-bi-backup" and "powerbi" were created but empty.

Does MS Fabric do a backup automatically when I wait for example one Day?

Or do I have to trigger a backup manually? And how can I do that?

Thanks for your help!

    Hi marius1106,

We appreciate your query on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Kindly follow the steps mentioned below, which may help in resolving the issue:

    1. Microsoft Fabric does not automatically back up semantic models to ADLS Gen2. Although connecting your workspace creates folders such as power-bi-backup and powerbi, these folders will remain empty unless a backup is manually initiated.

    2. To back up a semantic model, the process must be carried out manually using tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or PowerShell with Analysis Services cmdlets. This involves connecting to the XMLA endpoint of your Fabric workspace. Please ensure that you are using a Premium Capacity or Premium Per User (PPU) workspace, and that your ADLS Gen2 account is properly configured with the necessary storage and access permissions.
