Lakehouse vs Semantic Model Column order
Hi.
I have a lakehouse table with columns in right order, but when I create a semantic model with that table, columns are displayed in the semantic model in a different order, like alphabetical order. However I see that not all semantic model do the same, some of them keep lakehouse column order. How do I keep lakehouse table order in the semantic model? I need users to access it in that order.

What you are seeing is expected: the physical column order in a Lakehouse table is not guaranteed to flow into the Fields pane of a semantic model. When a model is auto-generated (especially older/default semantic models), columns often get alphabetized. Models you created or edited yourself may keep the order because they have an explicit column order saved in the model metadata.
Solution:
- Build or convert to a Custom semantic model (not the older Default type), then set an explicit column order in the model. After that, the Fields pane will follow your chosen order for users. I think semanticmodel not automatically retained the column ordering as per your lakehosue table. Semantic model is using direct lakemode and it set to deafult alphbet column order while creating from lakehouse.
So, You can go to Power BI desktop and edit the semtanicmodels and orders it manually or in PBI services semnatic model you can drag and drop the columns as per your requirement.
