Lakehouse Backup

I have begun using Fabric for data storage to use with PowerBI. I have a relatively simple, yet time consuming, task of combining hundreds of Excel files into a Lakehouse table that i can then connect a PowerBI report to for each customer.

However, I am concerned as it seems far too easy to accidently delete a table or even an entire Lakehouse. Is there a way to backup these Lakehouses and tables so that if one were to be unintentionally deleted or a user accidently chose "replace" instead of "append" all of the table data would not be lost?

  • Need Delete Prevention Lock in Fabric like is available in Azure Resources.

AndyDDC Will this also work if someone accidentally deletes a Lakehouse?

      E.g. like this:

Won't the Lakehouse then also get automatically deleted in the backup region?

When we delete files from OneDrive or Sharepoint, I think there is a time period (x number of days) where you can recover the file from the recycle bin.

Is there a similar functionality if someone deletes a Fabric Lakehouse?

      I'm curious about this 😀

I also found this Idea for being able to recover a Lakehouse: https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=36fb5834-45ac-ee11-92bd-6045bdb0416e please vote if you want this feature.

I don't think the restore points are so important, because we can do time travel.

However I think there should be an out-of-the-box functionality for restoring an accidentally deleted Lakehouse or Lakehouse table.

In that MS doc, for a Lakehouse backup it's not really very advanced...all it's doing is copying the Delta tables from a source Lakehouse to a destination (backup) lakehouse.  Nothing is system managed, it's just done through code.

AFAIK if a Lakehouse is deleted then it's gone...    If a Workspace is deleted it can be recovered (7 days)

  • User replacing the data in delta tables can be easily recovered using the time travel support of Delta.

But the other scenarios that you had mentioned - Deleting table or lakehouse - Currently there is no backup support of lakehouses. The best you can do is manually replicate the data to another lakehouse.
