I am not able to create Anything within Microsoft Fabric

Hi team,

I am participating in the AI Skills Fest Challenge: Become a Certified Fabric Data Engineer: Prep for the DP-700 Certification https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/challenges/60yka7to2d1k30/leaderboard?wt.mc_id=challenges_nudge_to...

I am create a Microsoft Fabric Free account and activated the 90 day trial, but I keep getting errors creating Lakehouse in any workspace I create.

Here is video of the error I am getting trying to create the Lakehouse to complete the DP-700 Module for the Challenge: https://www.loom.com/share/a9c85565a0fd4d0e9f2994149f3191cc?sid=65a330f3-7e33-4746-b2b8-a77e79bb439d

Here is another video showing I can only create a Pro version of a workspace: https://www.loom.com/share/73375962548c4e51bd77028c21d2fcb7?sid=bf3ddd58-3834-40ed-acde-0dd658b1e94d

Please help I really want to finish this challenge and looking forward to passing the DP-700.

Thank you,

John Kennedy

Hi @johnkfabriceng7 , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.

The free trial you have is for Power BI Pro, not Fabric. Currently, Microsoft does not offer free trials for Fabric to new tenants. However, you can obtain a free trial license with an older tenant (over 90 days) of any Microsoft 365 product (like Azure).

If this helped solve the issue, please consider marking it “Accept as Solution” and giving a ‘Kudos’ so others with similar queries may find it more easily. If not, please share the details, always happy to help.
Thank you.

Hi there, I thought I would add to this. Even though it is an issue there's still resources you can use to get use to the environment like online videos.

Plus, if you study for the Fabric applied skills you can get hands-on experience when you look to complete the assessments...

Hi @johnkfabriceng7 ,

Thanks for sharing the details and the videos — they helped a lot.

From what I can see, it looks like the trial capacity might not be fully activated on your tenant. Even though you’ve signed up for the 90-day trial, sometimes the Fabric capacity doesn’t get provisioned correctly, especially if you're using a personal or non-business tenant.

Here’s a checklist that might help:

  1. Check if the trial is actually active
Go to admin.microsoft.com → Billing → Your products. Look for something like “Microsoft Fabric (Trial)” and make sure it’s listed and active.

  2. Make sure your workspace is using Fabric capacity
When creating a workspace, under “Advanced” settings, set the License mode to Trial (Fabric). If it only shows “Pro”, then the trial isn’t properly assigned to your tenant.

  3. Try creating the workspace from a different tenant
If you're using a personal Microsoft account (like @outlook.com), try signing up with a work/school account instead. Fabric features are often limited or blocked on personal tenants.

  4. Check with your admin (if you're not the admin)
Some orgs restrict trial capacity creation. If you're the admin and still facing this, try assigning yourself the Fabric Admin role and re-check the capacity settings.

Let me know if any of these steps help — we’ll figure it out together.

If my response resolved your query, kindly mark it as the Accepted Solution to assist others. Additionally, I would be grateful for a 'Kudos' if you found my response helpful.

I am facing same issue even after having business account.

The administrator of your tenant may have restricted the ability to create trial capacities, so you may want to check with them.

I am the administrator so its not the issue from our side.

John, the first video shows that you are not actually activating the trial.  You may need to check the settings and/or permissions on your tenant.

Hi Chris,

I am confused.  I signup for Free Fabric account under support@johnakennedy.com.

Then I tried to activate my 90day free Fabric Trial under my tenant as the account manager., Still not working.

Here is link to another video I did today: https://www.loom.com/share/990d2b3fe3a149e8a69eaf70925aa8df?sid=72ee35d3-1552-4bb7-a410-0c379eb1bf76

Any help would greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

John Kennedy

Hi @johnkfabriceng7

After watching your video, even though you have noral trail license, while creating wrokspace you need to select Trail from the options, but it's grade out.

I have few suggestions as mentioned below.

  1. May be your Fabric admin has disbaled to create Fabric Trail licenses. So, Please contact your tenant administrator to turn on Fabric trial capacity permissions as well as capacity allocation. How to enable Fabric for your organisation pls read this thread Enable Microsoft Fabric for your organization - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn,    Fabric trial capacity - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
  2. If your tenent created recently, Microsoft imposed restricton to activate fabric trail for 90days . Screenshot 2025-03-01 204649.pngPlease read this accepeted solutions We cannot assign you a free Microsoft Fabric trial... - Microsoft Fabric Community  ,            Solved: Re: Fabric Trial not working - Microsoft Fabric Community It might helps you what you need to do.

Check the above steps.

Thank you!

John, can you go to the License Info tab on the Workspace Settings for that workspace and confirm that it's connected to the correct license and capacity?
