How to correctly extract data from the Capacity Metrics App semantic model? Supported approach?

Hii team,

I am trying to programmatically extract performance and capacity data from the Fabric Capacity Metrics App.
Whether it has any restictions to extract the data from the semantic model in the auto-generated Metrics App workspace via Fabric APIs.

For example , fabric.list_datasets()

Hi @Padmanabhan

THere's no 'supported' way to do this as the capacity metrics model can and does change, which could break anything you do.

THat being said, if you move the capacity metrics workspace onto a premium or fabric capacity, you can interact with the XMLA endpoint to get data.

This is what FUAM does: fabric-toolbox/monitoring/fabric-unified-admin-monitoring/how-to/How_to_deploy_FUAM.md at main · mic...

When installing the Fabric Capacity Metrics App, it automatically creates a workspace with its own semantic model and reports. Is it possible to change this so that the autogenerated semantic model and reports are created in our own workspace instead.

Hi @Padmanabhan,

No, it is not.

However it is just a workspace, you can change ownership of it, attach it to a capacity, and built other content in that workspace. Though when you update the app, it will wipe that other content out.

I created a notebook inside the auto-generated workspace of the Fabric Metrics App and wrote a script to extract performance data.
But I am getting this error:
DatasetNotFoundException: Dataset 'Fabric Capacity Metrics' not found in workspace 'Microsoft Fabric Capacity Metrics'
But the dataset is actually present in the same workspace.
I am using a free account now.
Which license do I need to use?
Why is this error happening?

Can you share the script?

Do you have the workspace attached to a capacity with the XMLA endpoints enabled?

Hii @tayloramy

I shared the script in the private message.

Previously it was working but i am facing this issue for the past two weeks

Hi @Padmanabhan

Can you confirm that the workspace is assigned to a capacity with XMLA endpoints enabled?
