Help accessing Dataflow Gen2 After Starting Microsoft Fabric Free Trial (Macbook)

Screenshot 2025-01-15 at 12.31.44 PM.pngHello,

I’ve recently started a free trial for Microsoft Fabric, but I’m encountering an issue. Even though the trial has been activated, I’m unable to access Dataflow Gen2, which is essential for my work. I keep getting the message saying I’ve reached the maximum number of available free trial capacities, but this is only after starting the trial.

Here are the steps I’ve taken so far:

  • I verified that the trial is activated.
  • I checked the capacity settings in the Microsoft Fabric portal, but still cannot access Dataflow Gen2.

I’m unable to proceed with any data transformations or create dataflows, which limits my ability to use Fabric effectively. The only reason I'm using Fabric is because I'm using a macbook and I want to practise getting familiar with Power BI concepts for my workplace.

Has anyone else faced this issue or found a workaround? Any help or insight on what I should do next would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

Hi @Sannie00

(I) Enable the free fabric capacity from the Tenant admin id for the Id which you are usnig.

(II) If enabled and you are still getting error either, you have reached the limit of capacities offered by Fabric in free version or, the issue is from the Microsoft server-end.

(III) You can also raise a support ticket with Microsoft to find out the root cause of it.

Hi @Sannie00 ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum regarding unable to access Dataflow Gen2.

May I ask if you have resolved this issue? If not please try to contact your tenant administrator to confirm whether they have enabled Fabric trial capacity permissions and capacity allocation. This step may also help resolve your issue.

For more detailed information, please refer to the documentation below for a better understanding:

Hi @Sannie00

I have seen this type of issue multiple times in last few days in this forum and replied to it.

Unfortunately, it appears you are experiencing a known issue with the Microsoft Fabric free trial. Many users have reported encountering the same error message about reaching the maximum number of available free trial capacities, even immediately after activating the trial.

This issue seems to be affecting users across different tenants and regions. The problem appears to be on Microsoft's end rather than anything you've done incorrectly.

Please accept this solution if this is helpful.

Thanks
