Gettine the error An unexpected error has occurred. You may attempt to connect to your data source

Hi Team,

I am getting the below error while importing files or connecting Azure platform in Data flows in Free fabric account.

An unexpected error has occurred. You may attempt to connect to your data source by navigating to the Home tab

Can any one help on this?

Thanks,

Hi @NPrasad83 ,

This generic "Unexpected error" message in Dataflows is often a temporary UI or session glitch rather than a deep technical failure. Since you are on a Free Fabric account, it can also happen if the underlying trial capacity is paused or refreshing.

Here is the step-by-step troubleshooting guide to resolve this:

1. The "Incognito" Test (Most Likely Fix) Fabric caches a lot of data in your browser. Old cache files often conflict with the Dataflow editor.

  • Action: Open a Private/Incognito window in your browser and try to create the Dataflow again.

  • Result: If it works, you simply need to clear your browser's cache and cookies.

2. Check Your Capacity Status Free Fabric (Trial) capacities can sometimes "pause" if they are not used for a while.

  • Action: Go to the Admin Portal > Capacity settings > Trial.

  • Check: Ensure the status is "Active". If it is paused, resume it.

3. Network & VPN Check Dataflow Gen2 relies on the Power Query Online mashup engine. Strict corporate firewalls or VPNs sometimes block the specific WebSocket connections it needs.

  • Action: If you are on a VPN, try disconnecting it briefly to see if the error persists.

4. The "Project" Workaround Sometimes the specific Dataflow draft gets corrupted.

  • Action: Instead of editing the existing one, try creating a New Dataflow Gen2 from scratch to see if the connection works there.

Hope this gets you back to importing data!

What type of files are you trying to ingest to fabric ?

It may have been an connection error, do you have the right access ?

Mostly trying to upload files from Azure is getting the error
