GTW connection to MS Fabric

Hello,

We are planning to connect our on-premises gateway to Microsoft Fabric following the guidelines outlined in this documentation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-communication.

To facilitate this, we have submitted a request to our network team to allow TCP communication from the Windows Gateway server on port 1433 to the addresses specified in the documentation.

Our network team has inquired whether it is possible to establish this connection through a SOCKS proxy on our side. Could you please confirm if the gateway supports connections via a SOCKS proxy?

As I am not a network specialist, I would appreciate your guidance on whether this configuration is feasible.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi @DavidPi

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

No, Microsoft Fabric On-Premises Data Gateway does not provide native support for SOCKS proxies for communication, including over TCP port 1433. The gateway is compatible with HTTP and HTTPS proxies, which can be set up through .NET configuration files. SOCKS proxies are not officially supported or documented as a configuration option for gateway communication. Proxy support is limited to standard HTTP proxies that can handle HTTPS (SSL) traffic, and these must be configured using Windows Internet (WinINET) settings on the server where the gateway is installed.

For further details, please refer the official Microsoft documentation on https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-proxy .

I hope this information is helpful. . If you have any further questions, please let us know. we can assist you further.

Regards,

Microsoft Fabric Community Support Team.
