Fabric - Linked Server usage outside Fabric as downstream

Hi Team,

In our Fabric suite we have the semantic model built and we have PowerBI reports running above it.

There is one request on how to use this in two ways from client:
1. To get the OAC (Oracle Analytical cloud) to get connected to this model to pull the data

2. To use the fabric Warehouse as Linked server in one of the downstream system - On Prem SQL server.  Is there a way that can use the fabric data inside their stored procedure as a linked server?
Could you please help on the feasibilty

Hi @Jothy ,

Your first requirement is that you want OAC (Oracle Analytical cloud) to be able to connect and use the semantic model in Fabric, am I correct in my understanding?

Currently, there is no direct connector that can be used to connect OAC to Fabric.

I have an alternative where you can export the data from Fabric to CSV format and then connect it in OAC. Please let me know if you have a better method.

Your second requirement is that you want On Prem SQL server to connect to the warehouse, am I understanding correctly?

Currently, there is no way to connect directly from On Prem SQL Server to Fabric Warehouse.

You can consider using Pipelines to move data between Fabric and On Prem SQL Server, for more information you can refer to this document:

Move data from Oracle to Fabric Lakehouse via pipeline and on-premises data gateway - Microsoft Fabr...

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

@Anonymous Yes the understanding for first requirement is correct. The data in our Gold tables are huge and hence exporting so many volume in files does not seem to be a fitting option. We might need to think of other option as OAC is one of the existing downstream systems to use the Fabric output.

Second requirement, yes we want the On-prem SQL server to connect to Warehouse like a Linked server concept so that it can use the data as cross join with On-prem's data
