Fabric Capacity

Hello Community,

Please, is it possible to get access to a Fabric Capacity trial? That will really provide an opportunity to be hands-on when following along with the tutorials.

When I was preparing for the Power BI certification, the tutorials included labs in the form of VMs to practise what was being taught. Perhaps, Microsoft can make the same considerations for Fabric as well.

Thank you.

Hello @onimesh

It is absolutely possible to get Microsoft Fabric Capacity trial, here's a page that tell you how to go about that.

Fabric trial capacity - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

If you are unable to use Fabric trial, the possible reasons are:

  • Org policy blocks free trials
  • Lack of a Power BI Pro license
  • Not using a work/school Microsoft Entra ID

Since you mention that Power BI certification included VM-based labs, Microsoft does provide a Fabric equivalent:

Fabric Analyst in a Day (FAIAD)

This is a free, hands‑on workshop with guided labs that walk you through practical exercises such as:

  • Working with Lakehouses
  • Transforming data
  • Creating reports
  • Using notebooks and pipelines in Fabric

Hope this helps, please appreciate by leaving a Kudos or accepting as a Solution

I trust this will be helpful. If you found this guidance useful, you are welcome to acknowledge with a Kudos or by marking it as a Solution.

Hi @onimesh , it's awesome & smart that you want to learn fabric by doing the labs on the tutorials, say this many times over in the past, become a practioner would exponentially increase your chances for presenting and approving MSFT certifications, but moreover, to work on this platform!

Moving forward, the answer to the question "is it possible to get access to a Fabric Capacity trial?" is YES, you can!

There're many different ways to get one, let me list the alternatives:

#1. The most straight forward but unfortunately, less probable is for your school or work to provide one for you, but this works if all of the following conditions are met:

  • if you're a student or work on company operating in a MSFT (or perhaps interested in Fabric)
  • If the school/company allows free trials to be requested by endusers (students/workers)
  • if there's any free capacities left for grabs (only 5 IN TOTAL per tenant)

So, option #1 is very unlikely, but exists! The second one requieres a bit more effort from you, BUT IT IS TOTALLY WITHIN your control!

#2. Using a MSFT hotmail account to get one! I recommended this option to so many people asking somehow the same in this forum that I even created an article on my blog with the steps, here's the link 🔗

Brilliant! How to get started with Fabric with a Hotmail account   if you follow the procedure, you will endup with a tentant under your control form where you can activate your own fabric trial capacity!  Many people have followed the procedure with positive results and I'm pretty sure it will work for you to 😁🤞

So, please check the article and followed the procedure, wish you all the very best with your studies and I'm super happy to have one new fabric practitioner withing our midst! If you found this info. useful, give a kudos and mark as solutions for others to find this information! Cheers
