Fabric Apps 403 error Japan East region

Body:

Hi community,

I'm trying to deploy my first Fabric Apps project using the Rayfin CLI, but I'm running into a 403 error and can't find a solution.

Environment:

  • Tenant region: Japan East
  • Workspace: F-SKU capacity assigned
  • Tenant admin setting: "Fabric Apps (preview)" is enabled for the entire organization

Problem 1 – rayfin up fails with 403

When I run "npx rayfin up", I get the following error:

Creating new Rayfin item "my-demo-app"... Error: Fabric API error: 403 Forbidden Details: The feature is not available

Problem 2 – "App" item not visible in portal

When I go to my workspace → New item, the App item does not appear in the list at all. This makes me think the feature hasn't been rolled out to the Japan East region yet.

What I've tried:

  • Confirmed tenant admin setting is enabled (organization-wide)
  • Tried signing in with multiple accounts

Question:

Is Fabric Apps currently available only in specific regions? Is there a list of supported regions for the preview? Any workaround to test this in Japan?

Thanks in advance!

Rayfin CLI を使って Fabric Apps プロジェクトのデプロイを試みていますが、403 エラーが発生し解決できません。

環境:

  • テナントリージョン:Japan East

Creating new Rayfin item "my-demo-app"... Error: Fabric API error: 403 Forbidden Details: The feature is not available

Fabric Apps は現在、特定のリージョンでのみ利用可能ですか?プレビューの対応リージョン一覧はありますか?日本でテストするための回避策があれば教えてください。

Hi @oussamahaimoud ,

Thank you for the clear explanation! It's a shame that Japan East isn't supported yet.

Since deploying a new capacity in our organization requires an approval process that takes some time, we've decided to wait until Fabric Apps becomes available in Japan.

I'll keep an eye on the region availability page you shared.

Thanks again for your help!

Best regards, Seto

Hi @setotoset,

Hope you're doing well!

As I know, The 403 "feature is not available" error from the Fabric API, combined with the App item not appearing in the New Item list, is the classic symptom of a feature that hasn't reached your tenant's home region yet, the tenant setting being enabled is a necessary but not sufficient condition.

So, the solution for you is to create a new Fabric capacity in a region where Fabric Apps is confirmed working (East US 2, West Europe, or UK South are safest bets for new previews), assign your workspace to that capacity, and try rayfin up again. If your home region doesn't reside in a supported region, you can create a capacity in a region where Fabric is available and use Fabric's multi-geo capabilities.

For the official list and to track when Japan East gets added, keep an eye on aka.ms/FabricRegionAvailability, this article is frequently updated to reflect the latest region support. You can also follow the Microsoft Fabric Blog https://blog.fabric.microsoft.com/en-US/blog/fabric-may-2025-feature-summary/ for region expansion announcements as they roll out.
