The ownership of DBs (Lakehouse, Data Warehouse) was a service principal. A change of ownership to a user principal with admin permission resolved the issue.

Advocate IIIWe're experiencing this today in East US for a lakehouse and warehouse. Other lakehouses and warehouses in the same workspace and other workspaces are not affected. Simple SELECT TOP 1000 queries take 20+ minutes and return this same error (Encountered operating system error 5(Access is denied.) while attempting to read physical metadata.) According to Microsoft Fabric service status only Asia Pacific is degraded.
