Deployement Pipeline

Hello Fabric Community

I am using deployement pipeline to move [ report, its semantic model, related warehouse ] from dev workspace to prod workspace .
for suppose my report name is "xyz dev" and after pushing to prod , I want to change its name to "xyz prod".
does simply renaming the report in prod workspace after deployement will be the right way.

What happens if next time I deploy the report , will it work , since name of the report will be unmatching from as in dev and as in prod.

Hi @IAMCS

Yes, renaming like xyz prod after deployment from DV to PD, that's allowed . But, if you deploy again from DV to PD it will overwrite the and it will show again as xyz dev and it may causes the report lineage breaking.

As a workaround, you can rename in dev as xyz prod and deploy it to PD, aftre deploying it to PD then rename the report name as xyz dev in DV environment.

Let me know if it works for your.

Thank you!!

Hi @IAMCS ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you @suparnababu8 for the prompt response.

As already mentioned by @suparnababu8 :

Yes, you can rename the report in the Prod workspace after deployment (e.g., from "xyz dev" to "xyz prod"). However, if you redeploy from Dev, the report with the original Dev name ("xyz dev") will be deployed again, which may lead to duplicate reports and broken lineage.

Here are some Recommended Best Practices:

1.Avoid renaming deployed artifacts in Prod unless absolutely needed.

2.If renaming is necessary, do it in Dev before deploy, and maintain consistency.

3.Use deployment rules, parameters, or workspace names to manage environment differences - not just the report name.

Thank you.
