DatasetNotFoundException when extracting the performance data using metrics app

I created a notebook inside the auto-generated workspace of the Fabric Metrics App and wrote a script to extract performance data.
But I am getting this error:
DatasetNotFoundException: Dataset 'Fabric Capacity Metrics' not found in workspace 'Microsoft Fabric Capacity Metrics'
But the dataset is actually present in the same workspace.
And also the same script worked previously but i am facing this issue for the past two weeks.
Why is this error happening?

I am using a free account now.
Which license do I need to use?
Why is this error happening?

Hi @Padmanabhan

I think it's throwing error bcz you're using Free account. You need to have Pro, Premium Per User, or a Power BI individual trial) to access and use the app. The auto genearted workspace of capacity metrics app is  a special case and it enforces license checks very strictly than regular workspace.

So I would recomemd you should be activate Fabric Trail accoutn and make sure you shold be your capcity admin(pls see below image) to conenct the datasets.

Currently it is in trial mode. Whether this mode need to be changed to overcome this issue?
Whether it consumes any cost for changing the license or only for the configured sku capacity f2, f4, etc

Hi @Padmanabhan

Perfect! Pls check whether you had capacity admin access for you capapcity which I mentioend in my previous reply.

Thank you!

Hii @suparnababu8

Okay I will check that.

Only if I am a Capacity Admin, will I be able to write a script in the notebook to extract performance data?
Because the notebook will be common for all users and visible to them… if they are not Capacity Admins, how will they extract the performance data?

Hi @Padmanabhan

Once you ebcome the capacity admin, I hope you'll extract the data. Pls try.

Thank you!

Already capacity admin only

Hi @Padmanabhan ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

Thank you for the update, in this case the issue is most likely because the workspace is still in Trial mode. The Metrics App workspace has very strict license checks. Even if the dataset is visible, the notebook may not be able to connect to it unless the workspace is assigned to a Fabric capacity (not Trial).

Change the workspace License mode → Fabric capacity. Make sure the workspace is assigned to your Fabric Trial capacity

Hi @v-menakakota

Yeah , I changed the license and solved that issue.
But currently getting the error as the below:
"Caused by AdomdErrorResponseException: <ccon>Internal Error: Error obtaining data location. </ccon>. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface."

I think it is a permission issue. Which permission i need to resolve this issue?

Hi @Padmanabhan ,
Glad the first issue is fixed

This new error usually means you don’t have enough access to the Fabric Capacity Metrics dataset.

Please check whether You have Viewer (or above) permission on the dataset. You are still Capacity Admin for that Fabric capacity. Other users who run the notebook also need Viewer access.

After giving the correct permissions, the notebook should be able to read the data without this error.
