Hi @Athira_Nalamkan ,

The DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_CanceledError happens when a dataset refresh process starts but then gets interrupted before completion. Moving a dashboard to Fabric capacity can trigger this error when the gateway loses connection temporarily, your query runs too long, or capacity resources hit their limits.

Troubleshooting steps

Restart the gateway
Restart your on-premises data gateway service and try the refresh operation again. Gateway disconnects often resolve after a restart.

Update the gateway
Make sure you're running the latest gateway version. Older versions sometimes struggle with capacity transitions and can throw intermittent errors.

Check capacity resources
After moving to Fabric capacity, monitor your capacity utilization in the Fabric Capacity Metrics app. Look at the Compute page and Throttling tab to see if background operations get rejected when your capacity exceeds its limit. If you see rejection spikes, scale up your capacity or optimize your dataset refresh queries.

Review query performance
Long-running queries timeout during refresh when gateway refresh windows expire. Optimize your queries to finish faster or break large refreshes into smaller batches.

Verify gateway configuration
Confirm your gateway machine has enough CPU and memory available. Resource constraints on the gateway host cause instability and connection drops.

Manual refreshes work more reliably than scheduled refreshes when this error happens intermittently. If the error persists after these steps, collect the full error details from your refresh history and open a support case with Microsoft.

Thank you!

Hi @Athira_Nalamkan ,

Thank you for reaching out. The  Gateway CanceledError  typically indicates that the refresh process began but was interrupted, which can occur after moving the dataset to Fabric capacity due to a temporary gateway disconnect, a lengthy query, or resource constraints.

Please try these steps.

1. Restart the On premises Data Gateway service and attempt the refresh again.

2. Ensure the gateway is updated to the latest version.

If the problem persists, let us know and provide the full error details from the refresh history so we can investigate further.

Regards,

Yugandhar.
