Hi,
Yesterday I bought a Microsoft Fabric reservation for a year. I can see the purchase of the subscription and its active in Azure. But, I can't find the Fabric subscription in Power BI when I want to assign a workspace to it. Does somebody know how to solve this problem?

Hi @CReportify,
Thank you for your follow-up. It is important to confirm that your reservation is being applied correctly. While switching from Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) to a Microsoft Fabric reservation can help reduce costs, the reservation does not automatically take over your existing capacity. Azure applies reservations based on specific criteria, such as SKU, region, and subscription.
To ensure your reservation is applied correctly and to avoid both PAYG and reserved charges, please follow these steps:
Access your Azure Portal: Navigate to Reservations > select your Microsoft Fabric reservation. Check the Usage or Utilization tab to confirm if the reservation is being utilized. Check reservation use with utilization
Verify Billing Attribution: Use Cost Analysis to confirm charge allocation: Go to Cost Management + Billing > Cost analysis. Filter by subscription and group by Reservation ID or Reservation name to see if usage is billed under the reservation.
Confirm Capacity Matches Reservation: Ensure the SKU and Region of your Fabric capacity exactly match your reservation. The subscription used to create the capacity must be the same as the one used to purchase the reservation. Buy a Microsoft Fabric subscription - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
If you're unsure whether your existing capacity matches your reservation, consider provisioning a new Microsoft Fabric capacity with the same SKU, region, and subscription, and assign your workspace to it.

I already had an existing Microsoft Fabric capacity that was running on a pay-as-you-go basis (which I can also pause). I purchased the reservation and I changed the configuration as the same as the existing fabric capacity. Like same subscription, region, and resource group. So, will the existing pay-as-you-go capacity automatically switch to use the reservation pricing (with discount). Or is there a chance that I'm now paying twice, once for the reservation and again for the pay-as-you-go usage? I am the Capacity admin and Power BI admin.
Hi @CReportify,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum. Additionally, thank you to @burakkaragoz, for his input regarding this issue. I have identified several alternative workarounds that may assist in resolving the thread.
Purchasing a Fabric reservation means prepaying for capacity usage at a discounted rate. However, this does not automatically provision a capacity instance in Azure or Power BI. To utilize the reservation, you must manually create a Fabric capacity in Azure and assign your Power BI workspaces to it.
Confirm Your Reservation in Azure: Access the Azure portal, search for Reservations, and verify that your Microsoft Fabric reservation is active (Status: "Succeeded"). Note the SKU (e.g., F64) and Region, as these must match when provisioning the capacity.
Provision a Microsoft Fabric Capacity: In the Azure Portal, search for Microsoft Fabric Capacity and click Create. Use the same subscription and region as your reservation. Select the matching SKU (e.g., F2, F64). Complete the setup and deploy the capacity.
Access the Capacity in Power BI: Open the Power BI Service, go to the admin portal > Capacity settings, and you should see the newly created capacity under the Fabric Capacity section.
Assign Workspaces to the Capacity: Navigate to the desired workspace, click Settings > Premium / Fabric capacity, select the capacity you just created from the dropdown, and save.

Thank you.
Hi.
Its not yet resolved. I switched from PAYG to reservation but I am not sure the reservation took over the PAYG. I don't want to pay double. Is there a way to check this?
Kind regards,
CReportify

Are you sure the SKU has to match, because according to this post by Marc Lelijveld it doesn't?

In fact, the discount examples backs up the fact that the SKU does not have to match:

Hi @CReportify ,
This is a common issue right after purchasing a Fabric reservation — the subscription might be active in Azure, but not yet linked properly to Power BI.
Here’s what you can check:
Check Capacity Assignment in Power BI Admin Portal
Verify Azure Resource Assignment
Permissions
Wait Time
Let me know if you want help checking the Azure side or validating the tenant linkage.
