About Fabric Premium Per User

We are considering using Microsoft Fabric to make internal data available in Power BI.

We would like to know whether the following setup can be operated using the Fabric Premium Per User (PPU) license:

・Currently, about 100 users have Power BI Pro licenses.
・These users are viewing reports in Power BI Pro workspaces.
・In the future, we plan to use Microsoft Fabric features such as pipelines, dataflows, lakehouses, and data warehouses to create data, and allow Power BI Pro users to view the reports.
・Only a few users will be responsible for creating pipelines, dataflows, lakehouses, and data warehouses in Microsoft Fabric.

Can this setup be operated with only a few users having the Fabric Premium Per User license?

Hi @yyjp

I would recommend you the follwing pointers.

  • Those who are be viewing the reports, you can keep PRO license for them. No need to do any change here.
  • The way you propsed is PPU license is fine for bulding the Fabric activities. But, it has limitation, PPU not have full capabilites to fabric work items such as Data pipelines, data warehouses, notebooks, and dataflowgen2.
  • I recommend you please go with Fabric F-SKUs license for few user, who're going to build Fabric workloads.
