I have a question regarding Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines mounted in Microsoft Fabric.
When an ADF-mounted pipeline is executed in Fabric, does the execution happen in Fabric or in ADF?
Where does the billing occur? Is it charged under Fabric or ADF?
Would appreciate any insights or documentation references on this.
Thanks!

When you mount an Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipeline within Microsoft Fabric and execute it, the execution occurs within the Fabric environment. Consequently, the associated billing is applied to your Fabric subscription, not your original Azure subscription. This means that the processing utilizes your Fabric capacity, and the costs are covered under your Fabric subscription.
Mounting architectural implementation uses a proxy layer that translates ADF pipeline definitions into Fabric’s execution framework while maintaining compatibility with legacy ADF triggers and integration runtimes
thet why When executing an ADF-mounted pipeline through Fabric, the workflow runs on Fabric’s compute rather than Azure’s traditional integration runtimes
The billing paradigm shifts completely to Fabric’s consumption model when using mounted pipelines

Linked services connecting to Azure SQL DB or Blob Storage incur separate Azure costs outside Fabric CU billing
This is incorrect. Billing is completely still from Azure. There are no CUs consumed from "mounted ADF item" in Fabric. Nothing is translated from IRs, all compute from integration runtimes stays in Azure and self-hosted IRs.

This information doesnt seem to be correct, see the reply made by a Microsoft employee here
