As part of our continued investment in modern, AI-powered workflow experiences, we’re beginning the retirement process for the legacy Teams and Outlook activities in Fabric Data Factory pipelines
For new notification scenarios, we recommend using the modern Microsoft Teams and Outlook 365 Email activities, which provide richer capabilities, reusable actions, and a foundation for future workflow automation.
What's changing
Beginning October 30, 2026, users will no longer be able to add new legacy Teams or legacy Outlook activities to pipelines.
These legacy activities will no longer appear as options when users add new activities to a pipeline. Existing legacy activity instances can still be edited and used in existing pipelines. New notification scenarios should instead use the modern Microsoft Teams and Outlook 365 Email activities.

The new Outlook activity supports Workspace Identity (WI) and Service Principal (SPN) authentication scenarios. At this time, WI/SPN support is available for the Outlook activity only and is not supported in the Teams activity.
What's not changing
There is no immediate impact on existing pipelines.
- Existing pipelines that already contain legacy Teams or Outlook activities will continue to run.
- Existing activity instances can continue to be used.
- There is no forced migration at this time.
- Runtime support for existing pipelines will continue after the creation cutoff date.
Why we're making this change
The new Outlook and Teams activities provide a more modern and extensible foundation for notifications and workflow automation.
Benefits of moving to the modern Outlook and Teams activities include:
- Richer message formatting for more flexible and visually engaging notifications.
- Improved authentication and connection management, providing a more consistent and secure experience.
- Enhanced auditability and governance, making it easier to track and manage workflow notifications.
- Copilot-powered authoring to help streamline creation and maintenance.
- Future extensibility, enabling the platform to support new scenarios and integrations over time.
Migration path
We're committed to providing a smooth transition experience for customers using the legacy Teams and Outlook activities.
Currently, no action is required for existing pipelines. Existing pipelines containing legacy Teams or Outlook activities will continue to run without interruption.
We encourage customers to begin using the new Teams and Outlook activities moving forward.
Starting October 30, 2026, you won’t be able to create new Legacy Teams and Outlook activities. However, you can continue to use and edit existing legacy activities.
We're committed to making this transition as smooth as possible and appreciate your partnership as we modernize pipeline notifications in Fabric Data Factory. Learn more in the Office 365 Outlook activity in Fabric Pipelines and Teams activity in Fabric Pipelines documentation.
