Copy job is the go-to solution in Microsoft Fabric Data Factory for simplified data movement across multiple clouds and tenants. With native support for bulk copy, incremental copy, and change data capture (CDC) replication, it can handle a wide range of movement scenarios through an intuitive, easy-to-use experience.
Change data capture (CDC) is the backbone of modern data replication. When your operational systems change — new orders, updated customer addresses, canceled subscriptions — your analytics environment needs to reflect those changes quickly and accurately.
Change Data Capture (CDC) support for SQL estate
We introduced CDC in Copy job (Preview) last year, but with this release, CDC with SQL estate is now generally available in Copy job, enabling reliable and efficient replication across your entire SQL ecosystem, with simplified configuration and enterprise-grade performance.
Source Connectors (Generally Available):
- SQL Server
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- SAP Datasphere
Destinations Connectors (Generally Available):
- SQL Server
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Fabric SQL
- Snowflake
Source Connectors (Public Preview):
- Google BigQuery
- Fabric Lakehouse table

We’re progressing more CDC connectors in Preview toward General Availability.
Extended SCD Type 2 support for Fabric Warehouse
Recently, we introduced native SCD Type 2 supported in Copy job to help you preserve full change history with effective dating and built‑in soft delete handling. This industry‑standard pattern allows you to track how each record evolves over time while ensuring deletes are handled gracefully.
This capability is now extended to Fabric Warehouse and Synapse SQL Pool, providing broader coverage with the same consistent SCD Type 2 experience across sources and destinations.
With native SCD Type 2 in Copy job, you can automatically maintain historical versions of your data and capture deletes as soft deletes—meaning when a record is removed at the source, the corresponding row in the destination is marked as inactive instead of being physically deleted. The result is a complete, audit‑ready view of your data’s lifecycle, including historical records that no longer exist in the source system.

Next steps
With general availability for CDC across SQL estate and extended SCD Type 2 support for Fabric Warehouse and Synapse SQL Pool, Copy job makes enterprise data replication simpler, more complete, and easier to scale. Whether you need to keep analytics data continuously in sync or preserve full historical context for audit and reporting, you can now do it with a streamlined, no-code experience in Microsoft Fabric Data Factory.
